Worked on the black hole story somewhat. Starting to get into the bits where everyone is freaking out. Also have the antagonist beginning his machinations.
One wonders, given the situation I've engineered, what people would do. Nowhere to return to -- Sol and the entire solar system were eaten by the black hole. No way to get there alive -- 33,600 lightyears from where they started, no fuel, no cryogenic suspension. Various other threats -- only 4 days worth of food, very high levels of radiation due to the globular cluster, micrometeorite strike, panic. In their favor they have the solar sails (which may be damaged) and plenty of water and therefore air. But it hardly matters since they have only 4 days of food and no way to produce more. I've toyed with the idea of cannibalism. They can't even put everyone to sleep and have the ship open an airlock on timer, they used nearly all the sedatives to calm everyone down after the escape. Whatever they do it'll be eyes open the whole way.
Of course whatever happens they have to deal with the fact that everything they've ever known is gone. That alone may have them lining up at the airlocks to take a short walk in the great wide open.
One of those things that makes you go "Hmmmmmm...."
And of course I have to remember to be succinct so as to keep it all under 20K words. Although Analog, at least, has no word limits. But I'm working under that arbitrary restriction trying to teach myself to do short things.
