If you look down at the very bottom of the blog page you will find the Clear Sky Clock for the Chattanooga area. This will show a variety of astronomically useful information and basically tell you when it will be a good night for viewing. Tonight will be a good night so I am going to get out the new ETX and see what can be seen. I am debating whether or not to put it in the back yard (yes, the grass was finally cut!) to get a better view but as Jupiter is one of the things I want to see I may not be able to see it from the back because the house will be in the way. On the other hand, I'll have a better view of the north, so it's a trade off. What would be best is to go up on a mountain and get out of the light pollution and haze and humidity, but I have no where of the sort. It will require some asking around, methinks.
Anyway, since I didn't get to go to the star party last night, I guess I'll have my own with the cats here. Two of my own and probably 3 or 4 of the strays.
Speaking of the strays, I now have 3 named ones, Kibo, Cubi (for Cubewano, another name for KBO) and Oort. Oort is a strange character, even for a cat. Male, orange tabby, and does some really weird things. I once saw him race across the yard at top speed and deliberately run right into Kibo for no apparent reason. He has a thing for my front steps, he likes to roll around on them and sort of ooze from an upper step down onto a lower one in a decidedly slime-like fashion. Anyway, he's now one of the regulars at Cafe Cat Food every night. A very odd cat. I think there must be a screw loose inside his head.
Well, anyway, there's the Clear Sky Clock so if anybody cares there it is.
Moose!
