It's a very odd world. Way out at Saturn life imitated art, and we have our own Death Star. Or maybe George was channeling an alien. We've got an entire giant moon that looks like Los Angeles's worst Bad Air Day ever. We've got flying rocks filigreeing the edges of the rings. We've got two rovers on Mars that are now almost 500 Sols over their warrantees and still going strong thanks to dust devils. We've got Sergei Krikalev, a Russian who's spent over two years total in space. We've got billions of dollars worth of the highest flying technology on the planet that can be destroyed by a few pounds of falling insulation foam.

And I've got a new computer. A Compaq Presario V2000 laptop. Right here. Right now. In front of me. At the library at school. Speaking to you via wireless LAN. And it's mine.

And it's entirely fruity.

Last week I decided to go ask the ladies at the credit union if they could tell me what was wrong with my credit rating that I couldn't ever get HP or Dell to give me financing. The very nice Miz Brenda looked it up, told me in fact I had exceptional credit, and said they'd be happy to give me a loan. I did the paperwork, and later that day it was approved. $1400. I went to Best Buy the following Monday (after a weekend mulling over which HP I wanted), and within an hour walked out with this amazing machine. I wanted an HP, but for some reason the two models I'd narrowed it down to they're not carrying anymore even though it's on their website. They can't even get any more except by special order. So seeing as how Compaq was bought by HP some time ago, and this computer is identical in all technical respects, I got this one.

There is so much mischief I could get up to with this machine, you just wouldn't believe. For one thing, it's a mobile podcasting machine, complete with CD/DVD burner and microphone jack and even s-video out. Not to mention being able to pack up and go write somewhere quiet and cat-free.

I had lunch at our new Panera Bread place on 2A today whilst doing my Technical Writing homework, and was able to get online via their free wi-fi. Got chased out when the lunch crowd began to hit, since I felt somewhat guilty at taking up a table that could seat 4 people. So I packed up and came to school. How entirely odd.

Well. Speaking of packing up, I need to start heading home. Have to take this thing home before I head to work.

More updates as events warrant. Maybe even pics.

I managed to get the plug-ins for my online Algebra class on it so I now have no excuse not to do my math. I got the DVD of the IMAX Space Station movie and I've watched that several times. And it has this amazing program called MuVee Producer where you can put in still pics or movie clips and set them to music. I did one with a bunch of space probe pics and the NASA recording of Saturn's magnetosphere translated into sounds. Very odd indeed. I need to get a microphone and try my hand at podcasting.

One would think simply plugging in the microphone would work. Apparently not. Oh well. Obviously I am missing something.
