Fandom is a Very Good World

I am proud to be a Fan because we have wonderful things.

In Fandom you learn that true faith lies in turning off your lightsaber and refusing to kill the Sith Lord because you know that underneath the mask and the armor and the quarter-century of evil, he is still your father and there is still good in him, even though you know in the next moment the Emperor will kill you for it.

In Fandom you learn that what truly matters is the content of a person's character even though the person in question is a machine that other people consider property to be disassembled by some cybernetics specialist in Utopia Planitia. What matters is that android is your second in command and has saved your ship more times than you can count, has named his cat Spot and in his spare time does amateur theater and paints a lot and tells jokes that nobody gets. What matters is that he's your friend.

In Fandom you learn that true friends are worth the trouble because you never know when you'll need someone to tag that last TIE fighter over the Death Star and you never know who you're going to stumble into in a Hutt's prison cell when you're blind and confused.

In Fandom you learn that True Love never dies, because your Formerly Royal girlfriend will risk her entire Rebel Alliance to save your frozen ass just to say she loves you.

In Fandom you learn forgiveness, because you waited twenty-seven years to learn that the world was betrayed to evil for love.

In Fandom you learn that the universe is not full of fear but full of hope, because somewhere out there is a wormhole back to the Alpha Quadrant and somewhere out there are endless adventures on a myriad of worlds undreamt of.

In Fandom you learn to respect the limited resources of this one tiny world because you've seen too many visions of a world where we didn't.

In Fandom you learn tolerance, because we have long-term loving relationships with our computers ... and sometimes with humans.

In Fandom you learn to share, because even though it's a big universe we still have to live with each other and the other guy usually has the bigger gun.

In Fandom you respect your ancestors, because our ancestors created this wonderful world we share. Thank you, Isaac ... and Gene ... and Ray ... and Sir Arthur ... and especially George.

In Fandom you hang on for the people you have three-hour intense conversations with in the lobby on Friday night at every con you meet, you've known this person for twenty years... but you still only know them as "CyberN8".

In Fandom you live a rich and happy life, because the universe is a wild and wacky and wonderful place and living any way else would be just plain sad.
