The Viking landers may have found Martian life after all ... and killed it.

If this is really true I am NOT happy.

They are adjusting things for the upcoming Phoenix lander to take this into account. You need LIQUID. Not always WATER. Write this down somewhere, it may be useful.

Hello, we've known for a bit that the Viking landers sterilized their soil samples. Considering that most bacteria would have been killed during sterilization, is it any surprise that they sterilized to avoid cross contamination. Besides, in the mid 70's, they were looking for fossilized remains, not living bacteria.
