Got out to my car this morning to go to work and noticed my "door open" light was on. ??? thinks me, since my driver's side door was closed. Then I noticed my messenger bag was open. It was the passenger side door that was barely closed. My 30gig iPod and my cellphone were stolen. But hey, they left me my radio!
Well, I got to work and immediately called Cingular and had them suspend my service. I clocked on and sat there for about fifteen minutes thinking, "If they've got my iPod, they know I have at least one computer. And the basement door lock is screwy. And Copernicus is sitting on the coffee table in the living room with the blinds open on the window right in front of it." So I left work and came home, packed up both Newton and Copernicus in their bags, bundled us all in the car and went to go get a new phone. Tonight, they will be packed up again and will reside beside my bed while I sleep. Tomorrow, I dunno what I'll do but I'll do something.
So what have we learned, kids?
Don't leave your car unlocked even in your own driveway, even in the supposed land of "Christian family values." That and $2.50 will get you a mocha latte at Panera.
