Roy Scheider has died.

Not that I'm particularly a fan of his, but he *did* play Dr. Heywood Floyd in the movie version of 2010. Anybody who plays in an Arthur C. Clarke movie is a friend of mine.

Which includes Keir Dullea (Bowman, 2001), Helen Mirren (Capt. Tatiana "Tanya" Orlova, 2010), John Lithgow (Dr. Walter Curnow, 2010, and Dr. Emilio Lizardo / Lord John Whorfin, Buckaroo Banzai), Douglas Rain (the inimitable voice of HAL), and many good Russians who were the Leonov's crew.
