I went to the bookstore Friday to get my Popular Science and thought I'd swing into the Audiobook section to try and find a science audiobook to listen to at work. Another Timothy Ferris book perchance, or James Burke, whatever. The entire section -- I mean it, the entire non-fiction section -- was nothing but Christian themed audiobooks or other "inspirational" books.
The world has gone mad and I'm the only sane person.
I'm certainly no stranger to keeping my beliefs to myself. I was pagan for five years, which here in the South is synonymous with "devil worshipper". I learned not to talk about it but I was never actually afraid. I am now. To speak the word "evolution" in a tone not filled with disgust but respect is to take one's life in one's hands and toss it to a pack of rabid wolves.
Fear and intimidation does not change belief, nor does it refute scientific evidence.
I wonder how long it will be before use scientific sorts will be rounded up into concentration camps.
I'd rather burn for that my distant ancestors were monkeys than live my life based on unsubstantiated hearsay.
