Well, we're back in school now. Desktop Publishing and Developmental Algebra. I'm actually having rather a lot of fun in DP so far; it involves using a Microslosh program called Publisher which fortunately I have on the computer here. One thing we must do for this class is create a "portfolio" of stuff in addition to doing the stuff from the book. The first is "create a postcard as an invitation to an event". So I did a postcard for that theoretical shoestring-budget sci-fi writers convention that I've daydreamed about doing for a couple years now. Last night I even made a flyer when I was just dinking around with the program. One can dream, right?
Algebra hasn't been that bad yet, if you don't count the $78 book and the fact that my Casio scientific calculator isn't good enough and I had to get on EBay to buy a specific graphing calculator for another $65. Used, at that. Brand new they're $100. And to think, people used to do all this with slide rules.
Oh well. If my father were still alive he'd be all over this nifty noodle calculator like slime on a slug. The last time I was in Algebra we were expected to do all of this with our brains. So I guess I shouldn't complain.
I think I'm on the downward slide with my cold. It's finally settled in my chest, though I'm still somewhat stuffed up. It's easily taken care of with nose-squirty stuff but I'm keeping away from that as long as I can as I've been on the stuff for three days already. Thankfully nothing that is coming out of my nose or my lungs is an ominous green, so no infection. Echinacea rocks. Go get some. Now.
