The babies are gone.

Not dead. Gone. I got home today to find the plastic crate turned over on the back porch and no sign of the babies. No sign of Spot. I've only seen Mama Cube since I got home, and none of the others. I haven't seen Bob for at least a week.

(Perhaps a rundown of our usual suspects would be in order...)

Cubewano, aka "Mama Cube" -- the mother and matriarch cat. Skinny gray female, just had kittens which I have not seen yet.

Oort -- Male, orange striped tabby, probable father of at least one of Spot's kittens.

Grayscale Halftone, aka "Gray" -- Male, white with large dark gray spots. Oort's frequent partner in crime.

HyperCube, aka "Hyper" -- Male, solid gray. One of Mama Cube's kittens from last year.

Montgomery Spot, aka "Spot" -- Multicolored calico, daughter of Kibo from last year, mother of the two kittens I found yesterday. Formerly thought to be male, but proved it wrong by getting pregnant.

Kuiper -- Male, long-haired orange tabby. Occassional visitor, still somewhat skittish.

Little Bobtail, aka "Bob" -- Male, black and tan tabby without a tail, thus the name "Bobtail". One of last year's kittens who I spent several weeks feeding when he was a kitten as he was dangerously thin and must have gotten separated from his mother at some point. He later became somewhat skittish and now refuses to be petted, but up until a week ago was showing up for food every morning and night.

Gods. Spot and the babies are gone. It doesn't look like a dog got them. They're just gone. Spot seemed to like the crate and didn't seem inclined to leave. She was there this morning when I left for work. Why would she have taken the babies somewhere else? She had food and water right there, Oort and Gray weren't inclined to hurt the babies... And if she had taken the babies elsewhere why didn't she come eat tonight?

Where could they have gone?

You could ask your neighbors if they saw what happened to Spot and her kittens.
