Was sitting here going through the black hole story yesterday when I realized I'd made a truly stupid scientific error. At various places in the story I have various of the characters looking through the ship's telescope back toward where Sol, Earth, et. al. were and seeing empty space. This is wrong because they are at the globular star cluster M15, 33,600 lightyears away, and due to the "lag time" of light taking that amount of time to get there they should still be seeing Sol and the entire solar system.

But then I realized that they probably couldn't see it anyway since at that distance it would be virtually indistinguishable among the rest of the dust and stars of the galaxy. Just to be certain I I looked up the Powers of Ten website. At 1/10th of a lightyear Sol is just a bright point among several. At 10,000, you couldn't find it let alone see it in the crowd. Even with a computerized telescope you probably couldn't find it since it would be calibrated to the universe and stars as seen from the vicinity of Earth, not way out at M15. So they're really very, very lost.

So I had a bit of a Homer Simpson "D'Oh!" moment and now I'm fixing it. Who knows, it might make the story better. Not only is their entire world gone but they can't even find where it was.

I'd best get to work on it. I'm determined to have this sent out by the end of the month if not sooner.
